Planning a visit

Yes, but only on the range if they are a paid customer. Otherwise, they can watch through our large viewing windows.

If you are an Illinois resident you are allowed to shoot on our lanes one time, sponsored under a FOID holder on the same lane. A sponsor can host one non-FOID holder at a time and if the non-FOID holder wishes to return to the range to shoot, they must have applied for and show proof of their FOID application. The exception to this rule is if they are accompanied by a paid trainer with their qualifications and insurance on file with our facility. This is a 5 Star Firearms policy.

Only members of the range can reserve lanes. With 16 lanes, most wait times do not exceed 30-60 minutes.

Restrictions / Rules

Anyone that can legally own the firearm type they wish to rent can participate in our firearm rental service provided they present proper identification as well as bring one of the following: a firearm of their own, a friend, or a hired instructor. This is an insurance policy and a proactive aid in suicide prevention.

10 years old, ages 10-18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and have their youth waiver completed and kept on file with our facility. To view and complete this waiver, click here.

Yes, long guns only. They can also can rent and shoot our rifles and purchase rifle ammunition here, provided they present a State Issued I.D.

All firearms must be cased and unloaded. You may carry your CCW in the store. If you wish to shoot your CCW in the lanes, we ask that you unholster in the booth and reholster in the booth before leaving.

Anything under 50 BMG or 4000 feet per second is permitted. No steel core, no incendiary or tracer rounds, and no green tip/armor piercing rounds allowed on the range as they will damage our back stop and create a liability. Shotguns can only be 00 buck or slugs, no birdshot or target loads allowed.

Three shooters maximum per lane, one person shooting at a time, two people maximum at the booth at once, as any third shooter waits behind the booth by the wall. Any more on one lane and it becomes a safety concern for our RSO’s and other guests.

Out Of State

Yes! Non-Illinois residents need only to show a valid drivers license to shoot in Illinois.

Yes, provided they have the proper identification (Valid State Issued ID/Driver’s License or PASSPORT) This provision does not apply to minors.

  • Firearms purchased through 5 Star over $400 there is no transfer fee applied
  • Firearms purchased through 5 Star under $400 the transfer is $15
  • Outside/Online transfers not purchased through 5 Star have a $40 transfer fee.

Yes, long guns require a 72 hour waiting period if the background check paperwork is completed at our Zion location. If you purchase a handgun, or would like to have your long gun sooner, we would transfer the firearm to our Wisconsin FFL location in Kenosha, and you can complete your background check at that location approximately one business day after purchase. This gives our staff time to transfer the firearm.

Training

Yes, any classes scheduled should be available on our website calendar under Specials and Events. Most events require prior registration, so follow the link to the outside instructors’ website where you may register and process your payment. We offer in-person and/or over-the-phone assistance for those who need it.

Yes, we can assist in the filing procedure for a $20 fee. This service is by appointment only. This process typically takes approximately 20 – 30 minutes.

Yes, you must have a valid Illinois State ID or Driver’s license with your current address, as well as a debit/credit card. The State will charge $11 for the card, 5 Star will charge $9 for the service. If you are active duty military stationed in Illinois, you will need a copy of your orders and your state and military ID; there is a military exemption of the state card charge. If you are renewing, please have your log in information and come in no sooner than 90 days before your expiration. The process takes about 20 minutes. Checks are not accepted for FOID applications.

We recommend contacting a certified and insured instructor; we have a selection of instructors we work with that we can recommend you to. They will require a fee for their service and time.

Military / Police / First Responder

Yes! You can rent long guns only. We welcome any of our military friends and if you have an instructor, you can rent and try our pistols.

Yes, 10% off merchandise, firearms, and ammunition.

Accross the board

You have 30 days to return items for a full refund with a receipt. Items must still have their original tags and packaging. Excludes all firearms & ammo. Please return damaged or defective parts and products directly to the manufacturer.

Yes! We have highly qualified gunsmiths on site. Tell them the issue you’re having or the work you want done and they will write it up and give you a time you can expect it back.
